Explore Plant and Transport Solutions, a nationwide plant hire and transport firm, has prioritised site safety by installing over 100 Xwatch systems on its fleet. The company, headquartered in Worksop, is committed to leading the way in site safety through the use of innovative technologies.
Explore owns a diverse fleet of excavators, ranging from 0.8 tonnes to 36 tonnes, including models from Komatsu, Caterpillar, and Hitachi. They continuously update and expand their fleet while focusing on the development of new technologies and software to enhance safety.
For the past two years, Explore has made it mandatory to equip machines weighing 13 tonnes and above with Xwatch Safety Solutions' XW series, a height and slew limiting system. Warren Wilkinson, Head of Operations at Explore, stated, "All of our Komatsu's 13t and above are fitted with Xwatch as standard. We have a selection of 8t machines fitted with Xwatch. Our JCB's also have Xwatch. We have taken delivery of more than 100 Xwatch systems, with more on order."
Explore recently added a Komatsu PC138, supplied by Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd, to their fleet. This machine features various safety components, including Leica Geosystems (part of Hexagon) machine control, Xwatch Safety Solutions for height, slew, and RCI, Safety Shield human recognition, and a thumbs-up display. They have also acquired a JCB245XR from Greenshields JCB Limited, which comes with Xwatch Safety Solutions as a standard feature. Explore continues to introduce new stage V machines, including additional JCB 245XR models with Safety Shield human recognition, thumbs-up display, Xwatch Safety Solutions for RCI, height, and slew restrictors, and Leica Geosystems (part of Hexagon) machine control.
In addition to excavators, Explore's fleet includes 3, 6, and 9-tonne dumpers, all equipped with Xwatch Safety Solutions' SS2 rollover monitor. This monitor, developed in collaboration with Xwatch Safety Systems and Trackunit, connects to Trackunit's telematic system, creating an industry-first solution for enhanced safety.
