Gareth James GJ Plant & Vehicle Solutions has delivered the first four units equipped with Xwatch Safety Solutions Slew Limitation this week to GAP Group Limited, a leading UK plant, tools and equipment hire company. This shipment includes three 1.5-tonne machines and a 3.0-tonne one, with another delivery due to reach the Milton Keynes Depot shortly.
Slew limitation, a safety solution that is not just for larger excavators, is designed to restrict the machinery to work within set left and right slew parameters. The XW3 from Xwatch Safety Solutions is a dedicated slew control system, playing a vital role in maintaining safety and enhancing productivity on construction sites.
Controlling the slew, or rotational movement, of a machine is an often-neglected aspect of site safety. By ensuring the machinery only operates within predefined parameters, the XW3 system can prevent accidents and facilitate efficient, precise operations.
The XW3 operation is fail-safe and fully automatic, making it user-friendly for operators who can access all functions with a maximum of two key presses. Depending on the installed options, the XW3 can support both single/dual parallel 'wall' limits and angular limits.
One notable feature of the XW3 is that it gradually reduces the slew speed as the machine approaches a limit, and softly stops at the limit. However, it allows full power if moving away from a slew limit, ensuring smooth and safe operations at all times.
The angular slew is referenced from the centre point of the machine, forming a "V" shaped left and right control in front of the operator. This allows for operation within set parameters, optimizing safety and work precision.
In contrast, lateral slew is referenced around both sides of the machine, creating a virtual wall on either side. This offers greater flexibility for working within the lateral side limits, further enhancing the safety and operational efficiency of the machinery.
