When Lynch Plant Hire needed a last-minute height and slew system installed on a Volvo Construction Equipment EC480EL destined for one of the UK’s most remote locations, the Xwatch team pulled out all the stops to get it done.
The machine is due to leave Hemel Hempstead this morning - (Wednesday 26th March) bound for the Fair Isle via a carefully timed sequence of road and sea transport. With a ferry booked for Saturday 29th, there was no flexibility in the schedule – and no room for delays. The only issue? The requirement for height, slew protection and RCI was a very last-minute request only flagged a few days before the machine was due to move.
Luke LeCoyte, National Operations Manager at L Lynch, got in touch to ask whether Xwatch could help turn it around in time – and the team delivered. Xwatch engineer Adam Guilfoyle completed the installation of an Xwatch XW5 yesterday (Tuesday 25th), just in time for collection this morning.
“Luke explained the situation and we knew how important it was to get this one over the line,” said Jemma Dycer - Hopkins (IOSH), Sales and Operations Manager at Xwatch. “You don’t get second chances with ferry bookings to somewhere like the Fair Isle, so we prioritised the job and made sure it was completed on time. Adam did a cracking job.”
Set halfway between Orkney and Shetland, the Fair Isle is as remote as it gets – which makes pre-delivery safety installs essential. With the Xwatch height and slew system now fitted, the Volvo EC480EL is ready for work in one of the most challenging and isolated environments in the UK.
